File Specifications

General guidelines

File Format We accept both Mac and PC file formats.
Bleed The amount of bleed required depends on the desired lenticular effect. Please see below.
Resolution Files provided for Offset Litho printing must be 300dpi at full size. Files that will be printed Laser-Photographically should be at least 100dpi at full size.
Color Space All images may be supplied in their native (CMYK or RGB) color space. CMYK is preferred for Offset Litho printing and RGB is preferred for Laser-Photo printing. If you supply RGB files for Offset Litho printing, there will be a color shift when they are converted to CMYK.
Hard Copy It is important for us to have a visual reference when assembling your files. If applicable, please show each different FLIP image and in which order the images should be placed (e.g. left, center, right)

Specific guidelines

Please choose one of the following for information specific to your project type or download PDF.

FILE FORMATS & SET UP

- Lenticular side: Layered Photoshop native PSD files are preferred. Though FLIP projects are generally done with flat TIFFs, fully layered PSDs are sometimes necessary.
  • For FLIP, ZOOM, MORPH & ANIMATION effects, use a separate layer for each "view," or "frame."
  • Please identify which view is to be "centered" when the viewer is looking straight-on at the piece.
  • For 3D effects, you may use up to 99 layers. Create each element in the layout on its own layer. That will give us more flexibility and will improve the 3D depth. For 3D, keep all layers in Normal mode. Do not use other blending modes such as Overlay, Screen, Multiply, Luminosity, etc. as these blending modes produce unpredictable results.
- Back (non-lenticular) side: lllustrator or InDesign files are preferred. Quark files are no longer supported. For crisp, clean text, do not submit a Photoshop file for the back side art.
- Please supply all fonts, or convert them to outlines.
- Please supply all linked images or make sure to embed them into the file.

FILE RESOLUTION

- All files must be submitted 300dpi at full size.

A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT 3D PROJECTS

- Your file and background layers must be about 15% WIDER than the finish size of the job.
- Why? We need the additional width in the background layers to create 3D depth.
Any elements that bleed off the sides of the trim area should not be cut off, but extend into the extra width area.
- Where possible, to enhance 3D, keep foreground elements away from trim.
- To see a sample screen shot click here. Note that the extra width is equal on both sides. Guides indicating trim are appreciated.

BLEED

- FOR ALL PROJECTS, please provide an extra 1/8" bleed on all sides. 3D projects require this bleed PLUS extra width.

COLOR SPACE

- CMYK is preferred.
- Images or colors built in RGB will be converted to CMYK and colors WILL shift.

COLOR MATCHING

- Make note of color matching needs. Please provide color swatches for color matching. We will make every effort to meet your color objectives, with the understanding that PMS-to-CMYK and PMS-to-RGB conversions are never exact.

FONTS

- Please supply all fonts that have not be rasterized or outlined.
- Avoid Italic/Script/Oblique typefaces on the lenticular side, as they will appear jagged from the lens texture.
- For the same reason, avoid small typeface sizes on the lenticular side. The grooves on the lenticular lens can obscure a small typeface.

A SPECIAL NOTE FOR 3D PROJECTS

- Your file and background layers must be 25% WIDER than the finish size of the job.
- Why? We need the background layers that wide to create movement that causes 3D depth.

  • Please identify which view is to be "center" i.e, in view when the viewer is looking straight-on at the piece.
  • For 3D effects, you may use up to 99 layers. Keep image separated and on their own layer, that will give us more flexibility and will improve the 3D depth.
- Please supply all fonts, or convert them to outlines.

File Resolution

- All files must be submitted 300dpi at full size, except for billboard and similar Very Large Format projects. These projects require 100dpi. Please consult with us to confirm resolution requirements.

A Special Note for 3D projects

- Your file and background layers must be approximately 25-30% WIDER than the finish size of the job.
- Why? We need the background layers that wide to create movement that causes 3D depth.
- Note: all text and images that are not background art need to stay within the live area of your job.
- Example: a 24" wide 3D piece with full bleed should be built about 32.25" wide and have background art that fills that space. The exact amount of extra width is project dependent. Call for specifics.
